Family Law Attorney Christina Martell

Christina ("Chrissie") Martell is an experienced family law attorney in Warrenville, Illinois. She represents clients in the areas of divorce, parentage, adoption, and real estate. Chrissie's even-tempered nature serves her well in difficult arguments with opposing parties, in and out of court. Chrissie knows that her clients come to her during times of great difficulty or high stress in their families, and she competently and fairly represents their important needs in court. An effective negotiator, she is able to find creative solutions to her clients' problems, and she works to ensure that opposing parties consider all options before escalating issues to trial. When agreements cannot be reached, however, Chrissie skillfully argues for her clients in court. She has experience litigating matters of parenting time, maintenance, child support, contested adoptions, contested guardianships, and more.

Chrissie gained significant insight into family law and divorce issues while working as a law clerk for family law firms in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. During law school, she worked as an extern for a Domestic Relations judge in Cook County and volunteered at the Domestic Violence Courthouse. She also participated in DePaul University's Family Law Clinic, representing clients in pro bono divorce and domestic violence cases. Chrissie was an active member and served as the recruitment chair of Phi Alpha Delta, the law school's largest student organization, for two years. She was an active volunteer in the Chicago community during law school and after graduating.

Chrissie is an alumna of the Chicago Justice Entrepreneur's Project (the "JEP"), the country's largest incubator for solo attorneys and small law firms. The JEP provides lawyers with a network of like-minded individuals dedicated to providing affordable legal representation for individuals falling between 150% and 400% of current federal poverty guidelines. JEP attorneys spend six months volunteering at CARPLS legal aid hotline in Chicago and providing pro bono legal services in their chosen areas of law, and 12 months thereafter developing their business and representing clients. During her first six months in the JEP, Chrissie represented adopting parents in Cook County through Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.

Chrissie cares deeply about her clients and their children. As a mother of two young boys, she is aware of the strong emotions that come into play regarding parenting, and she takes care to remind her clients to tend to their mental health needs during the pendency of their matters in court, and to seek help when needed.

Chrissie believes it is best for children to develop positive relationships with both of their parents whenever safe and reasonable to do so, but she argues for reasonable parameters to be set in place to balance a parent's rights and responsibilities with the best interests of the child. She also believes the best outcomes for children are found when parents set aside their differences and facilitate a positive relationship between the child and the child's other parent. She guides her clients in their own conduct between court dates to avoid unnecessary conflict that will only prolong a matter. Because the other side's conduct is out of her control, she remains ready and capable of presenting and arguing various motions in court as they arise.

Chrissie strives to offer her clients practical and meaningful advice at all times, and in doing so, she does not discourage productive conversations. In terms of pricing, the Law Office of Christina Martell, LLC provides alternatives to billing by the hour to ensure clients can communicate their concerns fully without worrying about a ticking clock or unpredictable invoices.
